How to Estimate the Cost of Remodeling a Bathroom

When it comes time to remodel your bathroom, you will want to know approximately how much money you will need to complete the project.  Consider getting several quotes by professionals to help you estimate the cost of remodeling your bathroom. Remodeling professionals can be found by searching the listings on MerchantCircle.  You can also complete the estimation process on your own.

  1. Sketch your bathroom on a piece of paper, noting where the toilet, tub, sink and shower are located.

  2. Measure the room and write the measurements on your sketch.  You may want to measure not only the walls, but also other spaces including the space between the toilet and the tub, the width of the sink and how much space is available for a towel rack or toilet paper holder.

  3. Look for bathroom products online or by visiting your home improvement store.  Find the products that you would like to use when remodeling the bathroom.  Write down these products on your sketch.  Put the name of the item, the location you found it and the price.

  4. Consider the changes you would like to complete when remodeling your bathroom.  For instance, you may want to add wallpaper or repaint the walls.  You may wish to install tile on the floor or the walls.  You may want to purchase a new tub or shower.  Whatever your desire, write down your ideas and then get prices for purchasing the items along with prices for installation.

  5. Talk with a representative at your home improvement store.  Customer service personnel have been trained to help you estimate the cost of remodeling your bathroom.  They may be able to help you find ways to save money or add unique amenities to your bathroom.

  6. Total the prices for everything you want to change during the remodeling process.  Be sure to include any installation costs.

  7. Determine if the total cost is affordable to your budget.  If your dream bathroom costs more money than you can afford, then you will need to find ways to reduce your costs by eliminating items, installing on your own or buying reduced and discounted items.
