How to Evaluate Automobile Insurance Companies
There are a lot of different car insurance companies available for you to choose from today. While some of these companies do their best to provide you with great service others simply concern themselves with maximizing their profits. Fortunately, there are some ways to be able to tell the difference between different companies.
- Take some time to get a quote from at least four different insurance companies that are of interest to you. Make sure that they are offering you a reasonable premium before you go on to investigate them further.
- Now that you know what companies are actually of interest to you, talk to your state’s Insurance Commissioner and the Better Business Bureau. Make sure that these companies are licensed to do business in your state and that there aren’t any unresolved complaints against them.
- Verify each of the insurance company’s financial stability with one of the following four major rating agencies for car insurance companies: Standard & Poor, Moody's, A.M. Best and Fitch Ratings. If a company has encountered problems, it will do everything within its power just to survive. This may include increasing premiums, denying claims that are actually valid and accusing a legitimate client of committing fraud.
- Go online in search of reports that the company has complaints or that they have otherwise mistreated one of their customers. While every insurance company is sure to have at least a few unhappy clients, you can tell the difference between a few isolated cases and a clear cut pattern of abuse.
