How to Exercise Early in the Morning

It is difficult for many people to exercise early in the morning. Although you might not feel like doing it, exercising early is often the best time because exercise helps you feel energized for the rest the day while not affecting the rest of your day’s schedule.

  • Go to bed earlier at night to wake up earlier in the morning to exercise. If you go to bed too late and still want to wake up early, this creates a sleep debt that will need to be paid off. The best way to get up early consistently is to go to bed early as well.

  • Set your alarm clock for the exact time you want to get up. If you want to get up at 5 a.m. to exercise, then set your alarm for that hour. Eventually, your body will adjust to the fact that you need to get up early. You will naturally get tired earlier in the evening as your body prepares to get up at the appointed hour.

  • Use multiple alarms if you have trouble getting up early to exercise. You can keep one alarm close to your bed stand, and then have another alarm across the room that goes off 15 minutes after the first alarm.

  • Ease into your new wake up time gradually. Waking up at a much earlier time to exercise can be too much of a shock for some people's system. If so, try to gradually adjust your wake-up time to an earlier hour. For example, if you want to wake up at 5 a.m. to exercise, then set your alarm for 6 a.m. initially. After a few days, set your alarm to wake you up 15 minutes earlier until you reach your desired wake-up time in a few weeks.
