How to Extend the Life of Designer Clothes
Designer clothing are expensive and most consumers cannot go out on a whim to the store and replace their designer clothing often. Thus, knowing how to extend the life of designer clothes become a critical factor and a major consideration when you purchase designer clothing.
Supplies:
- Garment bags
- Hangers
- Cedar blocks
- Dry clean your designer clothing often following the garment manufacturer label. Most high-end clothing label indicates dry cleaning, and dry cleaning cost should be factored in when you purchase your clothing. Find a dry cleaner that has the experience it takes to clean high-end clothing. Try to have your clothing dry clean on a weekly basis; do not place the clothing in your closet after worn for several weeks as this will destroy the clothing material.
- Buy garment bags to store your designer clothing every season, and hang on sturdy hangers. Make sure you have your clothing dry clean before you store, if they are dirty, and take them out of the dry cleaning bag as well. Leaving your clothing in the plastic bag from the dry cleaner will only destroy the fabric over time. Contact a furrier to have your fine furs and leather clean instead of using a regular dry cleaner. Fold and place any cashmere sweaters in your clothing collection in cotton bags until next season.
- Reduce the amount of time you wear your designer clothing. As much as you may love that gorgeous designer dress, wearing it often will weaken its fibers. It is a good idea to factor how often you will wear an item, and the cost of maintaining the item before you purchase the item.
- Ventilate your clothing closet and make sure it is free of moth. Create at least one inch of space between your clothing items, and hang cedar blocks to reduce the chances of insects damaging your clothing.
