About Healthy Meals for Kids

How to Feed a Child Healthy Meals

Feeding children healthy meals can be difficult, especially considering how much junk food is marketed toward them. If you ask your child what types of healthy foods he or she enjoys and even sneak a few healthy ingredients in their unhealthy favorites, you can get your kids to eat healthy foods fairly easily.

  • Sneak a few vegetables or fruits in your kid’s favorite meals. For example, you can mix some tomatoes or fish into a bowl of macaroni and cheese. If your child is resistant to fruits or veggies, you can blend them finely in a blender and add them to regular meals.

  • Get rid of the regular table salt and replace it with kosher salt. Kosher salt has less sodium than normal salt.

  • Fry foods in canola or olive oils rather than vegetable oil. You can also swap the whole milk for skim milk to cut down on fat.

  • Lead by example. Kids often imitate their parents, so eat healthy in front of your children from a young age to show them that healthy foods are enjoyable.

  • Do not buy unhealthy foods from the grocery store. If your cabinets are stocked with healthy meals and snacks, your children won’t have any choice but to eat healthy foods when they get hungry.

  • Ask your kids what kinds of healthy foods they enjoy, or ask them to brainstorm healthy recipe ideas with you. If you plan your meals and make shopping lists together, your children will feel more involved in the cooking process and will likely want to eat their creations.
