How to File a Life Insurance Claim
Dealing with the death of a loved one is something that no person looks forward to, but it is a natural part of life that everyone faces at one time or another. If you are the beneficiary of the deceased you will more than likely have to file a life insurance claim. An attorney can handle this for you, but it is something that you can easily do yourself.
How to File a Life Insurance Claim
- Gather all the insurance documents of the policy holder. Have them available because the insurance company will need some information contained in the policy. If you cannot locate the policy try to find the paid premium receipts.
- Place a call to the insurance agency that issued the policy and they will assist you in processing the claim. They will send you the forms that you need to fill out to get the benefits from the policy. Some companies will even give you the option of printing the forms from their website.
- Submit your claim to the insurance provider once the forms have all been completed. You will also need to submit a copy of the death certificate, which can be obtained from the funeral director.
- Contact the insurance company within a couple of weeks to make sure they have everything they need to process the claim and verify how long it will take.
