How to Fill Out Auto Body Repair Forms
Auto body repairs and restoration can be frustrating for customers. After a car is wrecked or damaged, filling out paperwork can be confusing. After a mechanic's assessment of damages to vehicles, the customer receives an estimate of the cost and sends that information to the insurance company.
- Complete the top of the repair
form. This part of the form requires the customer's name, address
and contact information to be provided. The date of the transaction
is also needed on these forms. - Enter the vehicle's identification
number (VIN), the reading on the odometer, the make and model of the
car and the license plate number. The auto body shop will get this
information from the customer at the time of the assessment. - Describe the location of the
repair that is needed. For example, the rear fender or passenger
door. Also describe the name of the part(s) needed, the serial
number of the part and the quantity of the part. - List how the repairs are to be
conducted. What parts will be used? Will sanders be used? Will
paint be needed or parts need to be wielded? Describe what actions
will be used to restore the body of the car. - List the price of all parts and
combine that with the price of the labor. This estimate should be
given to the customer and their insurance agent (if needed). The customer is probably gathering a few estimates from different shops around the area in which they live. Be honest and fair with prices, and the customer just may chose your shop.
