How to Fill a Propane Tank Cheaply
Propane gas for the most part is costly especially if you need it year round for heating and cooking purposes. For this reason it is important for you to devise a game plan for tackling the cost of this gas source.
- Set up an account with a local propane gas distributor and/or supplier. Generally you would visit their office to complete paperwork in order to create this account. You need your driver's license and your lease if you are renting.
- Determine the amount of propane gas you currently need. Read the percentage on your propane tank to determine the amount of propane gas you have in this tank.
- Place a small order for just enough propane gas to cover one month. On average this is 100 gallons of propane gas.
- Begin making small payments to your selected gas distributor or supplier each pay period. You could pay as low as $20 at a time. The point is to build up credit for propane gas. Even if you do not need propane year-round and only use it during the winter months you should begin building this credit as soon as possible. The propane gas company will apply these small payments toward your account for future gas deliveries.
- Place an order for a fill up within the month that the propane gas company has a special price available for this gas. Usually this special price is available in August or September. Use the credits you have built up toward this gas purchase. As long as you are making these small payments the propane gas company will keep an eye on your propane percentage and refill as often as you prefer. With even these small payments coming in your costs are covered. Most propane gas companies offer this "tap off" services.
