How to Find Cheap Airline Fares

If you are planning on taking a vacation and looking for a way to save money there are several things you can do to find cheap airfare. Getting an affordable price on airfare would mean you having more money to spend once you get to your destination.

  • Keep your eyes open for special promotions offered by different airlines. It is not uncommon for some major airlines to offer a special promotion for a limited amount of time. Be sure to check their websites on a regular basis.

  • Try to be as flexible as possible on your travel dates. Traveling in the middle of the week or on Saturday is usually the cheapest time to fly. Late night flights, which are commonly referred to as "red-eye flights" are also commonly discounted.

  • Contact the airline to see if they offer any kind of package deal to the destination you are traveling to. They may be able to offer you a discounted airfare rate with a hotel and car rental included.

  • Use the Internet and compare rates from several different airlines.

  • If you are traveling during the off-season inquire about standby airfares. This should not be done if you are flying during busy season because you could end up using up your vacation in the lobby of an airport waiting to get a flight out.

  • Purchase your airline ticket from a ticket consolidator who purchases big blocks of tickets and sells them at deep discounts to the public.

  • Book your ticket as far in advance as possible to get the best rate. It is recommended that you book your ticket at least 21 days in advance if possible.
