About County Attorneys

How to Find County Attorneys

Finding a county attorney is not all that difficult once you know what or who a county attorney is. Depending on where you live, a county attorney may also be referred to as a district attorney or a chief legal officer.

  1. Determine which county it is you want to look for the county attorney in. Because the county attorney is an elected official, every county will have a different attorney. You may need to use an online search engine and look up the city and state to find the county in which the city or town reside.

  2. Use that same search engine and search for "county attorney XYZ" where XYZ is the name of the county you are looking for. Keep in mind not all counties will have a county attorney, or that they may be called something else. Do a follow-up search for "district attorney XYZ" to see if you get any further.

  3. Call the specific county's information hotline. Most all counties will have a basic information phone number set up that you can call with a variety of government and official related business. If you are working within a smaller county that doesn't offer a general information hotline, call the local postmaster. As a government official and office, they will be able to direct you to the right person(s).

  4. Search for a neighboring county attorney if you are unable to locate one in the original county. Depending on your issue or question a different county attorney may be able to help you.
