How to Find Creative Apprenticeship Jobs
Finding a creative apprenticeship job doesn’t have to be difficult. There are many apprenticeship jobs that are available to those who know how to find them. Roll up your sleeves, and get ready to find a job that will enable you to fulfill a creative career that you love.
1. Discover what type of apprentice you want to be. Unlike traditional jobs which typically don’t require a lot of personal insight to be creative, an apprenticeship will call for skill. Find out what your skill is and be sure that you enjoy doing it. Deciding to become an apprentice means you will have to work under someone else and take constructive criticism. Don’t wear your feelings on your sleeve. If you want to be great at something you will have to push through obstacles. Carpentry, art, and music typically have opportunities for apprenticeships.
2. Build experience. Use your skill on a small scale to build some type of experience before you actually begin your apprenticeship. If you want to do carpentry, study up on the basics and safety precautions of the job. Then begin building beginner items for family and friends. Take pictures of your work so that you can show your potential mentor what you’ve got.
3. Keep an eye out for apprenticeship opportunities. Search online at job websites and even Craigslist for ads posted wanting apprentices. Visit places where you think an opportunity may exist for you. For example, if you are interested in the arts and want to work in a museum, visit your local art museum or gallery for a chance to speak with someone who may have an opportunity for you.
