How to Find Doctors Online
If you need to make an appointment with a doctor, the most convenient way of finding one is by searching online. Fortunately, between insurance companies and other directories, using the Internet to find a doctor is easier now than ever before.
- Go through your insurance company's website. Most insurance companies have a search function that allows members to locate a doctor on their plan. This will allow you to search for doctors of a certain specialty if desired, search by location or you can attempt to locate a specific doctor by name.
- Look for specialty doctors by checking associations. Certain doctors become members of associations and will be listed on the association website. For example, if you are looking for a rheumatologist, go to the American College of Rheumatology website to locate a member or look up your state's rheumatology association.
- Visit the American Medical Association (AMA) website and use the DoctorFinder function. You will need to type in the word verification before you can get started then click the "Submit" button. Select "for Patients" then "DoctorFinder" and then read and accept the terms and conditions. This will take you to a search form that you will need to complete in order to locate a doctor through the AMA.
- Locate a doctor using WebMD's physician directory. Complete the form by filling in the appropriate zip code, city or state, the doctor's last name if you know it or selecting a specialty. Once completed, click "Find a Doctor", type in the word verification and view the listed results.
