How to Find Life Insurance Policies of the Deceased

If a loved one has passed away and you are insure if they had life insurance, you need to do your homework to find out if a life insurance policy was in effect. Many people fail to mention if a life insurance policy was purchased due to the physical or mental inability to inform their family members. Do not worry though, if there was a life insurance policy you can locate it with a little footwork.

Check With the Bank

If you are unsure if your deceased family member or friend had a life insurance policy, the best place to begin your search is their bank. You will be able to look to see if there were any payments made on an insurance policy. These payments include the name and address of the insurance company that provided the insurance policy.

Credit Card Statements

Many people pay their life insurance premiums with a credit or debit card. If your deceased family member paid for any of their insurance premiums with a debit or credit card the bank that issued the card will have record of the transactions. Call them and let them know that you are looking for any payments that may have been made on a life insurance policy, they can help you in your search.

Family Members

Check with other family members or friends that had a close relationship with the deceased. Many people are uncomfortable with discussing the details of their life insurance policy, and will only inform the beneficiary or someone who they can trust with information in regards to their life insurance policy. 

Former Employees

If you are having trouble finding any record of life insurance payments, and you are confident that there was a life insurance plan you may want to consider the fact that they may have had a group policy through their employer. Contact all former employers and let them know that the person in question has passed on and you would like information pertaining to any life insurance policy that they may have held through their company.
