How to Find Parts at Junk Yards
Everyone loves saving money, and shopping junk yards for auto parts is one of the best ways to save a lot. You can find almost any type of part at a junk yard. Junk yards are a big grave for tons of vehicles that have been totaled or just don’t work any longer. You can find parts for a small price, saving you almost half of what you normally pay.
Locate the junk yard you will be doing all of your shopping. Make sure the junk yard will allow you to roam their lot. Some will not because of liability purposes, call around and find one that will allow you to walk the lot. Make sure you write down the type of part and any numbers associated with the part.
Prepare a tool bag to take all of the necessary items you will need to remove your part. It is a good idea to take as many tools along as possible, there may be some hard to reach parts so be sure to take tools for such incidents as that.
Once you find a junk yard that allows you to roam their lot, visit the lot to locate your needed parts. Some junk yard owners will charge you a fee to park or enter their lot. Once inside carefully walk the junk yard looking over each car to find the ideal auto part you need. You may find that a lot of the parts will be picked over.
Continue to look until you find a vehicle that seems to be still intact. Once you locate it begin to remove the parts you need. Take the screws out, or cut out the parts you need. Once the part is out write down any numbers off the windshield registration plate of the vehicle. Many junk yard owners have stock numbers used for their inventory, they will usually ask for this number when you check out your parts.
Go to the junk yard checkout and pay for your part. Try to get the best bargain for your part. Don’t always take the first asking price.
