Buying ready-to-assemble kitchen cabinets is a great way to get new cabinets and a new look for your kitchen without spending a ton of money, as they are much less expensive than assembled cabinets. They are not very difficult to assemble and it is a project that most homeowners can accomplish.

• Be sure to ask if necessary hardware is included; you may have to purchase it separately.


• Cabinets are often set up so you see and focus on the doors. Be sure to ask about the box part of the cabinet and check the material that is made from to be sure you are happy with it.


• Many cabinets on display at these stores are ready to assemble cabinets that have been put together by the store and sold as stock cabinets.  You could save as much as 40-percent by doing it yourself.

Check specialty cabinet shops in your area

• In addition to finished cabinets, these shops also have ones that you can assemble, as well as unfinished cabinets. 


• It may take longer to receive your product from a specialty store as most cabinets are not in stock or in a warehouse, but made-to-order.


• These stores may cost a bit more than home improvement stores or ordering online, but you can have them made to your exact specifications and from the material you choose.

Search online

• Conduct a search for ready-to-assemble kitchen cabinets. These are sometimes listed as "RTA" on websites. 


• You can often find good deals online, even with the added cost of shipping.


• Your order will be packed and shipped in flat boxes.


• The wait time for your cabinets is much less, generally it can be a 6-8 week wait for cabinets, but since these come in stock sizes they are shipped out much quicker. Usually you will have your cabinets at your door in two weeks.
