How to Find Registered Nursing Schools
Finding the right registered nursing school takes some research. The best nursing schools can often be hard to get into, so it is usually a good idea to apply to several. Checking online and talking with nursing professionals for recommendations can help a student find the right school to attend.
- Review the different nursing career options to help you find the right school. If you want a bachelor’s degree in nursing, or BSN, look for four-year schools instead of ones that only offer a two-year nursing degree. It may be easier to get into nursing school if you are willing to travel.
- Look in the phone book to see if there are any nursing schools in your area. Contact the school admissions department to find out how to complete an application. Apply 6 months in advance of the start of the school year so your application will be reviewed in time.
- Go online to find nursing schools. There are many websites that list nursing schools and the types of degrees you can earn. Make a list of the schools you like best and apply to them all. You may not get into your first choice but if you apply early enough you should be able to gain admission into one of the schools on your list.
- Check a nursing magazine to find a good school. Look in the front of the magazine to see if there are any articles on nursing schools. If you find a school that interests you, go to the school’s website to determine how to apply.
- Ask hospital nurses for school recommendations. Talk with nurses who are different ages to get some information on a school to choose. Ask the nurses whether a two- or four-year degree is the most popular at the hospital to help you choose the right program to complete.
