How to Find Temporary Jobs and Careers
Many people choose to find temporary work instead of looking for a full-time career. Depending on the area, it is often possible to find temporary jobs on a regular basis. Training in different fields can help a temp worker to have a steady career without committing to one employer.
- Update your resume to help you find a temporary job. Brush up on your skills to improve your chances of landing a position. For example, if you want a career as a temp worker in an office setting, practice typing to increase your speed.
- Look online to find a list of temp jobs in the town. Go to an online employment website and use the internal search engine to get a list of employers that need temp workers in the area. Complete an application online and also upload your resume before you submit it to the employer.
- Check the newspaper to find temporary positions. Look in the classified section and see if there are any positions that interest you. Contact an employer that has an opening and arrange a time to fill out a job application.
- Call a temp agency to help you find a job. Inform the agent you speak with that you want temp work and not a full-time career. Some positions may be full time for a season, such as summertime help. Let the agent know how far you are willing to travel to work for a temp job.
- Contact large employers in your area directly to try and find a temporary job. For example, if you are a skilled office worker, go to a major employer and ask to speak with human resources. Make sure that you leave your resume on file with the human resources manager if there are no temp positions available at the time of your visit.
