How to Find Temporary Jobs for Winter Break

When you're in high school or college and winter break from school is coming up, you may want to get a temporary job to make some extra cash during that time. Because many places are very busy during the holidays this is normally rather easy to do. There are a few different ways to find temporary positions during your winter break.

  1. Do a search online for jobs in your area. There are many job websites available. Some of them, such as Indeed.com, will allow you to search hundreds of job websites in one search. Narrow down your search results by select the area you wish to work in, the distance you're willing to travel and the fact that you are only looking for a temporary position. Doing this will weed out all the jobs you have no desire to apply to and save you time.

  2. Look in your local newspaper. Many places that are hiring temporary employees for the winter will place an ad in the newspaper. Look for ads that specifically say things like temp work, holiday work, Christmas or winter break work. These are the ones who only need extra staff for the winter and are normally easy to get a job with.

  3. Check the phone book or online for temp staffing agencies in your area. You can call the staffing agencies or talk to them in person to determine if they have any winter break temporary jobs available. Even if they don't have any jobs that are specific to winter break, they may have temporary positions that last about the same amount of time.

  4. Go to local retail stores and apply for a position as a seasonal worker. Because people are doing their holiday shopping, retail stores are normally overwhelmed and need help at this time.
