How to Find Used Truck Values

Knowing the value of a used truck can help both buyers and sellers to make a successful transaction on the vehicle. Buyers need to know the value so they do not pay too much to purchase the truck. Sellers need the value in order to set an asking price for the truck. There are different values to look for, and each one serves a purpose.

  1. Looking online is the easiest way to find the value of a used truck. Type “used truck values” in a search engine to pull up a list of websites that have truck prices. Choose the first website you want to try, and go to the used car section once you are on the main page.

  2. Find the used truck you want to price. Look through the input fields and check the box next to the features on the truck. Type in the mileage, then generate the valuation report. Print the report, or bookmark the page so you can go to a second website to compare the different truck values.

  3. Repeat the process for finding a used truck value on the second website. You can also try a third website if you like. Look on the valuation reports to find the different prices for the used truck.

  4. Find the “Retail” value, or highest value on a report. This figure represents what a car dealer will likely ask for a used truck when you buy one off of the lot. Depending on the report, you may also see a “Trade-in” value, which is what you would probably get for a used truck if you are selling it to a dealer when you purchase another vehicle.

  5. Use the pricing report to help you negotiate with a seller to buy a used truck. Offer the seller the lowest value on the report as your opening price. Negotiate the final price, and try to stay somewhere between the highest and lowest values on the report in order to get a fair deal on the used truck.
