How to Find Used car Auctions

Finding a used car auction is a great alternative to buying a car off of an auto lot. Not only can prices be substantially lower, but you also don’t have to deal with a salesman. If you can find one in your area, consider attending if you are in the market for a vehicle.

  • Check online for used car auctions in your area. You can place the term “used car auction” in the search box of your favorite search engine and any auctions in your area should appear. Some auctions operate at set times each month, such as the first Monday of each calendar month. Call the auction house and find out if their auctions are open to the general public before taking the trip to auction.

  • Check the newspapers and classified sections in your area for announcements of upcoming auctions. You will find that county and city governments often auction off vehicles that they can no longer use. These types of announcements are often found in newspapers. Sometimes estate sales will have one or several used cars available for sale as well.

  • Acquire a dealer’s license from your state so that you can participate in dealer auctions. These types of auctions are not open to the public and often offer great deals on used vehicles. Check to see how much a dealer’s license is before starting; you may find that it will not be worth the time and money to go down this route if you are only going to purchase one used vehicle.
