How to Find Vehicle Storage Facilities

A vehicle owner who needs to find a storage facility should try to get a recommendation from a trusted source. Visiting different storage facilities will help the owner decide which area is the safest. The price for using a facility usually depends on the type vehicle the owner needs to place in storage.

  1. Call your auto insurance agent to find a good vehicle storage facility. Ask your agent if your insurance policy covers any damage that occurs while your vehicle is in storage. Write down the name of the facility and contact the manager to find out when you can stop by to discuss storing your vehicle.

  2. Contact the police department to inquire about a vehicle storage facility. Some police departments store abandoned vehicles in an outside storage facility, so you can usually get a good recommendation. You can also ask how much the facility charges for storing a vehicle if you have a friendly person on the phone.

  3. Drive around the area where a storage facility is located to see if it appears to be safe. Meet with the manager and inspect the storage facility. Find out if the facility has ever had any problems with theft or damage to any of the vehicles while they were in storage.

  4. Ask the manager how much it costs to store your particular vehicle. Get the information in writing and then look for another facility to inspect. Check the Yellow Pages or go online to find another storage facility.

  5. Go to the next facility and check out the surrounding area. Find out the storage cost and decide which facility you like best. Sign the paperwork and let the manager at the storage facility know when you will drop off your vehicle. You should also find out the number to call to check up on your vehicle while it is in storage.
