How to Find a Credit Card Fraud Lawyer

The justice system can be very confusing. When you are charged with or have pressed charges for a serious offense such as fraud, the best thing to do is hire a lawyer to defend your case. Because the justice system can be confusing, you need someone who knows how to handle the details and that's just what a lawyer will do.

  1. Check your phone book for local lawyers. Contact those lawyers to see which ones specialize in credit card fraud cases. Hiring just any lawyer is not a very good idea. You want the lawyer that you hire to be very experienced in the type of case you are bringing to court. This will ensure that the lawyer will be ready for anything that might go wrong.

  2. Search online for local lawyers. The lawyer you hire does not necessarily have to be near you, but one from the same state is ideal. Laws vary from state to state and you need a lawyer that is familiar with your particular state's laws. If you can't find a local lawyer with a good background in credit card fraud cases, try to at least find a lawyer from the state the charges occurred.

  3. Hire based on experience levels as well as win-to-loss ratio. Having a lawyer with a good win-to-loss ratio with less experience is fine. In fact, even if a lawyer is very experienced in credit card fraud cases, if they don't win at least most of their cases move on to the next one with the most experience. Do this until you find a lawyer with both great experience and a great win-to-loss ratio.

  4. Try not to focus on price as much as quality when hiring a lawyer. When you've come down to only a few lawyers to choose from, then price should play a factor. Otherwise it's better to have someone who can defend you well, rather then someone who charges less.
