How to Get Into Dentistry Schools

How to Find a Dentistry School That's the Perfect Fit for Me

Finding the perfect dental school for you can sometimes be a challenge. You need to find a dental school that is suitable for your academic goals as well as your personality. It takes work and some research, but it's worth the effort if you are truly serious about becoming a dentist.

  1. Examine your academic options. Make a list of the dental schools you have in mind and find out what specialty and graduate programs are offered by these schools. Make sure you have completed the prerequisite courses recommended for the programs you are interested in. Also find out what grants and scholarships are available to potential students.

  2. Visit school campuses to see what they're like. Visit school facilities and campuses to see what the school is like before you expect to get admission letters. Though campus visits involves time and money, many schools post virtual tours on their websites. So before visiting campuses, take some time to view virtual tours. This will help you decided which schools you would like to visit.

  3. Find out more information by talking to current students. When you visit campuses, ask questions to learn more about the school. Speak to current dental students. Find out their opinions about the school, program, lab facilities and instructors or professors. Attend a class lecture and see how it is conducted.

  4. Take a look at your finances. You will need to pay for your tuition as well as living expenses. Living expenses include housing, food expenses and transportation. If this is a serious issue, then consider finding a dental school close to home so you don't have to incur accommodation costs.
