How to Find a Free Garage Plan
Finding the perfect set of free garage plans can be as close as your keyboard. Many websites today offer garage plans for free. So when you are ready to begin the project, or if you are just thinking about building a new garage, the Internet is a great place to locate free plans; as is the local lumber yard.
Step One
Think about the style of garage that you are interested in building. Today's garages do more than just offer a place to park your car, many serve as home offices, workshops or even additional living space for guests. Are you looking for a one story or perhaps a two story?
Step Two
Open your Internet browser to a search engine. Use the keywords "free garage plans" or "free garage blueprints" and search the web. Either of these searches should return a board range of sites for you to choose from. Visit several of the sites to get a feel for the different types of garages that are available. Once you've found a style that is appealing, you can do a more in depth search of the type of garage unit of your choice.
Step Three Make sure the type of structure you choose is not only eye appealing, but that it also meets your functional expectations for the new space. When obtaining plans from the Internet look for sites that offer downloadable plans. It is preferable if the plan has a downloadable materials list too. A materials list will allow you to calculate the probable cost of your project.
Step Four The Internet is not the only place to find free plans. Check with your local lumber company or home improvement store. Some lumbar yards will provide free garage plans and even more in depth design services in anticipation of selling the material for the project.
Remember, free garage plans can be a good starting point for a project but keep in mind that the free plans will probably need to be changed to meet your local county's building codes. Most of the free plans offered on the Internet are quite generic.
