How to Find a Power Cord for Small Appliances
Many things can happen to a small appliance electrical cord. It can become worn from usage, be damaged accidentally or just fail. When any of these happen it is important that you replace it with a new cord prior to using the appliance again to avoid risk of electrocution or starting a fire.
- Write down the name of the manufacturer and the model number of the small appliance. If possible contact them by utilizing a phone number on the appliance or check them out online. You may be able to order the cord online and you will be done.
- Take the information from the appliance and go to a home improvement store. Chances are likely they will have a replacement cord there. (If they do not and you are a DIY person, they will have the parts and you can make one!) Give a sales person your appliance info and they will let you know which you have to do.
- Drive to an electronics supply store. Most of them will have a standard stock of generic power cords that may fit your appliance. Just make certain that whatever cord you do purchase fits the minimum standards stated on the appliance.
- Go to a small appliance service shop near you. Many of these “fix it” shops keep replacement parts for when customers come in for repairs. Make certain again that the cord you purchase meets the minimum requirements for your appliance.
- One last place you can look without ever leaving your home is on the Internet. There are many suppliers of exactly what you are looking for online other than the appliance manufacturer. Just place the model, name brand and what you are looking for in the search engine and hit enter.
