How to Find a Storage Auction
When the current economic downturn, it's no surprise that many individuals have to default on some of their commitments; one of which are storage rental fees. When individuals default, the contents of their unit are placed in an auction and sold to the public. For individuals interested there are several ways to find these auctions.
What You'll Need:
- Computer with access to the Internet
- Telephone
- Open your preferred Internet browser and visit the Yellow Pages website. Once on the homepage locate the search field and input "Self Storage" along with the city and state that you wish to search within. Then use your mouse to click on the "Search" button.
- The website will then generate a listing of storage facilities in the area you designated. Review the result list and print the list out. The list will give you the name, address and phone number of each facility in your area. It's helpful to cross out any facilities that are greater than the distance you wish to travel so that you don't have to worry about calling them.
- Contact each of the facilities on your result list and inquire about any upcoming auctions they have scheduled. The frequency of auctions will vary from facility to facility. Depending on the size, auctions are scheduled anywhere from weekly, monthly to quarterly throughout the year.
- Contact the storage facility on the day that the auction is scheduled to verify that it will still take place. In some instances, tenants will sometimes pay their defaulted rent which removes the unit from the auction, which will cancel the auction.
