How to Find a Taxi Cab

To find a taxi cab, stand in locations that are highly populated with people and cabs. Bus depots, train stations and airports are spots with easy access to taxis. Planning ahead and calling a cab in advance will also guarantee that you have transportation when you need it.

  • Look for taxi cabs on the street. In many cities, this is the standard way of finding a taxi cab. You simply raise your hand and make eye contact to get the attention of the taxi cab driver.

  • Stand in a strategic spot. For example, if standing on a busy street with many others who are also in need of a taxi, you might find a cab more quickly if you cross to the other side of the street or move to a nearby, less populated street.

  • Go to a bus depot, train station or airport. These locations are ideal spots for taxi cabs. So if you are within walking distance of these locations, you might find a cab more quickly by going to one of those locations.

  • Call a taxi cab. Even in busy cities and popular spots that attract taxi cabs, there may be times, such as late night, when a taxi is not available. Plan ahead by having the phone number of a local cab company with you.

  • Ask locals for taxi cab referrals. If you find yourself in an unknown town with little taxi information, ask the local residents and businesses for the best places to find a taxi. Hotels are also a good resource for trustworthy taxi cab information.

  • Avoid exorbitant taxi cab prices. If you have just landed in a new location and are immediately approached by taxi cab drivers, don't take the first taxi offer you receive. Spend a few minutes talking to multiple taxi cab drivers and the airport information counter to gauge the going rate for taxi cab rides to your location in that particular locality.
