How to Find a Veterinary Technician Job
Being a veterinary technician can be a rewarding experience if you enjoy working with animals. Whether you have just graduated from a veterinary tech program or have years of experience, searching for the right job can be a lengthy process. There are many different places which can assist you in your search.
- Ask friends and family members if they have heard of any veterinarian offices that are hiring. If you recently graduated from a program keep in touch with the other students. Exchange numbers or email addresses so you can alert one another to job openings you've heard of. If you recently finished an internship, see if the veterinarian office is hiring. If the office has an open position, you may be able to get hired since the people are familiar with your skills and abilities. Instructors from your program may also be aware of vet offices that are hiring and can refer you to the appropriate person. Sometimes the best resources in a job search are those around you.
- Call local veterinary offices and ask if they are hiring. You could also visit in person with a copy of your resume and ask to speak to the hiring manager. Introduce yourself and inquire about open positions. If there is one available promptly fill out an application. If there are no positions available, leave a copy of your resume with the hiring manager and thank him or her for his or her time.
- Search online. Use a search engine of your choice to find job postings. There are a few websites specifically dedicated to veterinarian tech positions. Other websites may also have veterinarian technician positions listed as well. Carefully read the job description and working hours posted. If the position interests you, follow the directions and apply.
