How to Find an Acupuncture Doctor
Acupuncture is an alternative form of medicine that treats the body by inserting needles into it. The Chinese are generally credited with discovering this unique form of medical treatment. Today, acupuncture is considered to be a revolutionary treatment for women with fertility issues. Although it is a popular form of therapy, many people in the medical community consider it controversial.
- Look online. Many acupuncturists operate their own websites. You can also find them on a host of other medical related websites. Most of these sites are divided by state. Click on your state of residence and the site will pull up a list of practicing acupuncturists in your area. Make an appointment for a consultation.
- Contact the American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. This national professional organization seeks to promote awareness and education about the field of acupuncture. If you are a patient you can access the website and locate a practitioner in your area. You also have the option of joining the association and becoming a member.
- Browse the yellow pages. Another great way to find an acupuncturist is to look through the phone back. Consult the medical listings in the phone book to see if there are any advertisements for acupuncturists. Check to make sure that the acupuncturist is certified.
- Ask your primary care physician. If you still see your regular doctor, ask him or her to recommend an acupuncturist. Most doctors keep referral lists for other doctors in different specialties. If this does not work, try asking a family member or a friend for information. Find it out if they know anyone who has seen an acupuncturist.
