How to Find and Make Cheap Diet Food

Diet food does not have to be expensive to be effective. There are many ways to eat a healthy diet without busting your budget. The key is to stick to a healthy balanced diet, look for the proper sales and to prepare the food yourself.

  • Look for sales on chicken and fish at your local grocery store. Buy extra when there is a good sale. Cut the protein into individual portions. Wrap them in freezer safe wrap and freeze. Individual portions are easy to thaw and ensure that you are eating the right amount of food.

  • Buy a large block of low-fat natural cheese and cut it into serving size portions to have on hand in your refrigerator. Store them in a plastic food container or individually wrap them in plastic.

  • Keep single unopened cups of low-fat yogurt in the freezer. Use them in place of ice cream as a frozen treat.

  • Cook a large batch of brown rice. Let it cool, then put 1/2-cup portions into small freezer bags and freeze. They thaw quickly and can be used as an inexpensive side dish.

  • Buy a large container of instant oatmeal. It is cheap and the average serving size in 1/2 cup. Eat it in the morning for a healthy and satisfying breakfast.

  • Buy produce when it is in season. Seasonal fruits and vegetables are inexpensive and taste better than out of season produce. When berries are on sale buy extra and freeze them. Use the berries in frozen smoothies.

  • Keep canned tomato sauce in the pantry. Simmer it with fresh vegetables and use it to top whole grain pasta for an inexpensive and healthy meal.

  • Make your own salad mix. Wash lettuce, cabbage and carrots, dry them thoroughly and then chop them. Store the salad mix in a plastic food container in the refrigerator.

  • Use coupons and match the coupons with store specials to save even more money.
