How to Find the Cheapest Towing Service

Towing service is the type of service that you almost never plan on needing. However, when it is needed, you have precious few other options to get your vehicle where it needs to be. If you have to use a tow truck, make sure that you get the best price possible.

Use one of these steps to find a cheap towing service: 

• Plan ahead, if possible. Find several different towing companies in your area by searching the Internet or your local copy of the Yellow Pages. Call them and ask for a price quote. You will need to give them the exact mileage that they will be towing to obtain a proper quote. Remember that the distance is not obtained “as the bird flies,” but by following city streets. Use the towing service.


• Obtain a membership to an automotive club such as the American Automobile Association. The AAA provides free towing with a yearly membership. Keep in mind that this free towing is only for a certain distance, so if you exceed that distance, you will still owe the towing company money.


• Call your insurance company to see if roadside assistance is included in your policy. If it is not, see if you can have it added while the policy is still in force. You may find that you will save a significant amount of money by towing through your insurance company. Again, find out if there is a cap on free towing mileage. If there is, you could still owe the towing company money once the tow is complete.
