How to Find the Correct Seat Height for an Office Chair

Being comfortable in your work setting helps you be productive. Many people work in an office and must sit in an office chair for hours at a time. If the office chair is not the right height, it can cause you to be uncomfortable. Office chairs are easily adjusted using the lever located on the bottom of the chair.

Step 1: Sit in the office chair in your normal comfortable work position.

Step 2: Try to put your feet flat on the ground while staying in the position. If your feet can touch the ground, then your office chair may not need to be adjusted. If your feet do not touch the ground, you will need to adjust the chair until they do.

Step 3: Place your hands on your computer keyboard as if you are typing. You should be able to reach the keyboard easily and be comfortable when typing.

Step 4: Make sure you can see your computer screen easily.

Step 5: Make sure your phone and other office items like printers and fax machines can be reached easily where you do not have to strain to reach them.

Step 6: Slide your hand under the chair. Feel around until you find a lever. Pull the lever forward to release the chair.

Step 7: Keep the lever pulled forward and push down on the chair to lower it. Push up on the chair to raise it.

Step 8: Adjust the chair as many times as needed to find a comfortable position that also allows your feet to touch the floor and also allows you to reach your phone, keyboard and other workspace objects. You should also be able to see your computer screen easily.

Step 9: Release the lever when you have found the height you desire.
