How to Find the Percentage of Body Weight Lost
Before you start calculating the percentage of body weight lost, you must first measure your weight before you start your weight loss regimen. After you complete your weight loss regimen, weigh again to see how much weight you loss. Use the last weight amount to determine if your weight loss regimen is working or whether it needs tweaking.
Items needed:
- Calculator
- Scale
- Pen or pencil
- Paper
- Check your weight using your scale to get the current weight. Notate your current weight on a notepad, so you can refer to it later.
- Take your new weight and divide that amount by the weight amount you notated earlier.
- Take the amount you obtained in the equation and subtract that amount from the number one. If you lost weight, the calculated amount will be a negative number signifying weight loss, but a positive number will signal that you gain weight. Thus, you may have to revamp your weight loss regimen.
- Multiply the amount you receive from the earlier equation by one hundred. This will give you the percentage of your body weight. For example, your current weight is 220 and prior weight 250, use this equation 220/250 = 0.88, take the number 1-0.88=-.012 x 100= .12. The .12 amount you receive from calculation indicates that you have lost .12 percent of your body weight.
- Analyze your program if you have a weight gain. A weight gain means you are doing something wrong, or you have not found the best program to help you lose weight. After you analyze your program, implement changes so you can achieve your weight loss goal.
