How to Finish Knitting a Scarf
Knitting a scarf is the most common knitting project shared by those who enjoy this hobby. It's an excellent way to learn to knit or a way for a more experienced knitter to add style to any winter outfit. Finishing a knitted scarf, or casting off, can be a bit of a task. However, it's a necessary skill to learn to beautifully complete a scarf.
What You'll Need:
- Scarf positioned on knitting needles
- Yarn
- Scissors
- Knitting needle
- Start the process of casting off once the scarf you've knitted is of the length you desire.
- Begin knitting 2 of the stitches you've been using throughout the scarf onto the yarn knitting needle you have.
- Take the first stitch and pull it over the top of the second stitch. Then pull the first stitch completely off of the knitting needle.
- Next, begin knitting another stitch on top of the empty knitting needle. Take the first stitch and pull it over the top of the second stitch. Then pull this stitch completely off of the knitting needle as well. The process of casting off during knitting, particularity with a knitted scarf provides that you will always have two stitches placed on the empty needle through the entire bottom edge of the scarf you've knitted.
- Lastly, use your scissors to cut the yarn length once only one of the stitches is remaining on the knitting needle. Pull the shorter tail through the remaining stitch and completely remove it from the knitting needle. Then, knit the yarn tail and trim any remaining yarn for a clean and polished finished scarf.
