How to Fit Double Glazing Film
Double glazing film is applied to windows during the colder months to hold in heat. It is a thin layer of plastic sheeting and it is typically needed for older single pane windows. The easiest to apply is cling film, because of its ability to stick to the window surface without tape or adhesive.
Things You’ll Need:
- Spray bottle
- Water
- Dish soap
- Lint-free cloth
- Cling film
- Scissors
- Razor blade
- Hair dryer
- Fill a spray bottle with 3/4 of water and add one to two tsp. of dish soap. Tighten the top of the spray bottle and gently shake it.
- Spray onto the surface of the window and pay close attention to dirty spots. Take the lint-free cloth and wipe the surface thoroughly. Repeat spraying and wiping until all traces of dust and dirt are gone from the surface.
- Take the cling film and place it over the window. The film should overlap on all the sides of the window up to one inch.
- Press the initial cling film onto the top of the window firmly until it sticks. Slowly unroll the cling film as you progress downwards. Continue to press the film with your hand to keep it smooth. Once you reach the bottom of the window, cut the cling film with scissors.
- Look over the window and immediately suppress any air bubbles. You can do this by hand or by pulling up sections of the film and reapplying to remove the air bubbles. A hair dryer may come in handy to remove stubborn air bubbles.
- Cut the excess film around the window with a razor blade.
