How to Fix Rechargeable Batteries

  1. Use a battery tester or multimeter to test the rechargeable battery to ensure that there is no charge.

  3. Put on gloves, goggles and a long sleeved shirt to protect your skin and eyes from burns.

  4. Look for the positive end on the rechargeable battery, which is raised. The negative end on the battery will be flat. You can also look for the "+", which is positive and the "-", which is negative.

  5. Attach the rechargeable battery to a 12-amp, 5-volt AC/DC charger. Hold the black clamp to the negative end of the battery. Lightly tap the red clamp on the positive end of the battery. You will notice a spark.

  6. Hold the clamps to the battery for no more than two seconds at a time. Remove the clamps and check the reading of the battery on the battery tester or multimeter.

  7. Continue holding the clamps to the rechargeable battery until the battery tester or multimeter has the same reading as the fully charged battery that was tested in Step 2.
