How to Fix Sliding Glass Door Locks

Sliding door locks can easily get jammed and broken and need to be fixed. Any local hardware store can help you find a replacement for your broken sliding glass door lock. You can easily fix the door lock yourself in just a few short minutes.

Things you'll need:

  • New sliding glass door handle

  • Phillips screwdriver

  1. Remove the old broken sliding glass door lock. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws that attach the lock to the door. Take the old door lock with you to your local hardware store to help you purchase a new one. This will make it a lot easier for you to purchase the right new lock for your door.

  2. Remove the new door lock from its package and look over all the parts and pieces. Different door locks vary based upon the model of the door locks.

  3. Install the locking cylinder into the main door lock frame of the glass door. Take the key and slide it into the cylinder and play around with the lock to make sure that it turns and works properly.

  4. Place the exterior/locking side of the door lock frame into the sliding glass door. Next, place the interior side of the door lock frame into the glass door. Then place the door handle over the holes for the screws of the doorframe. Put in the screws and tighten them by hand as much as possible. Finish tightening the screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

  5. Slide the glass door close and lock the door in place. Make sure that the door lock engages by testing the door.  Open and close the door to make sure that the locking arms also move properly.
