How to Fix a Metal Roof on a Trailer House
A metal roof on a trailer house is made of very sturdy and durable material. However, over time the metal can rust and accumulate damage due to weather. The roof can contract and expand due to elements such as rain, cold and sunlight. Holes, rust, and dents can form as a result of the elements.
Things you will need to fix a metal roof on a trailer house:
- Urethane cement glue
- Roofing screws
- Screwdriver
- Caulk
- Roof sealant
- Paint brush
- Ladder
- Putty knife
- Household cleaner
- Sponge
- Clean rag
- Metal roof piece
- Look at the roof and search for rust spots or holes. You will then use a putty knife to scrape the area to get rid of loose debris.
- Take a sponge along with some household cleaner, such as Lysol, to clean the area. Make sure to use a clean rag to dry.
- Put some urethane cement glue below and along the perimeter of the metal piece going to be put in. The piece should be two inches bigger on the sides of the damaged area.
- Put some cement glue on the destructed area. Put the new metal piece with the glue side down over it.
- Take some roofing screws and the put on the new piece of metal. Make sure it doesn’t go in the wood frame, though. The screws should be placed every one to two inches surrounding the perimeter.
- Put a bead of caulk around the edges of the metal piece, as well as around the screws. Let it dry.
- Take some roof coating and seal the piece. Then use a three inch wide paint brush to apply roof sealant.
