How to Fix a Sloppy Paint Job

A new paint job can make a house look exceptional or exceptionally bad. It all depends on the skill of the painter. If the room you painted is a mess, don't worry. There are several things that you can do to get the room looking as it should.

Materials:

  • Paint

  • Paint brush

  • Steel wool or paint scraper

  • Paint remover

  • Rag

  • Drop cloth

Step 1: Clean up any drips or spills on the ground or baseboards before you do anything else. Use your steel wool or scraper to remove any blobs of paint on the baseboard or other areas that were painted incorrectly.

Step 2: Use paint remover and rags to clean up any paint that is on the ground. Make sure that you test paint remover on an inconspicuous area before using it on your carpeting.

Step 3: Touch up light spots in the paint if you used flat paint. This can help you avoid repainting the entire wall. Lay down your drop cloth in front of the area you will be working in. Using your paintbrush, paint even strokes on the light area.  Allow the paint time to dry before painting again. If you used a satin or semi-gloss paint, this method is not recommended.

Step 4: Move pictures or artwork on your wall to help cover up blotches or light spots in the paint. Make sure that there is no direct light against the wall.

Step 5: Shift furniture in the room if there are large areas of wall that are sub-par. This can help you avoid doing an entire repaint job.
