How to Force Oneself to Eat Healthy Food and Exercise

Bad habits are hard to break, especially if you have unhealthy eating habits and don’t exercise enough. With a little motivation, however, there are ways that you can force yourself to make healthy choices. The fact that you’ll feel and look better should be the greatest motivation.

  • Think about where you’d like to see yourself. How much weight would you like to lose? Do you have hereditary diseases in your family that you’d like to prevent? Write down a list of healthy goals you would like to achieve and come up with a plan for reaching those goals.

  • Make a meal plan with nothing but healthy meals and snacks. If you can’t think of healthy meal ideas. Just type “healthy meal ideas,” into Google and choose the healthy meals you like. Healthy snacks are usually fruits, vegetables, nuts and whole grain foods. You can also find books that give healthy alternatives to popular unhealthy foods.

  • Write all the items you’ll need for your healthy meals and snacks on a grocery list.

  • Keep all the unhealthy foods out of sight and out of mind. You should only visit the grocery store once a week, and avoid eating out. Bring the list you made to the grocery store and do not visit the store hungry. If you think you’ll still be tempted by all the unhealthy choices, have someone else take your list and do the shopping for you.

  • Get rid of all the foods that are bad for you in your house by throwing or giving them away.

  • Establish a daily schedule for eating and exercising. You should have breakfast, lunch and dinner with healthy snacks in between. You should also exercise for 20 minutes a day. If you need some motivation, try listening to music while you exercise or encourage family or friends to exercise with you. Exercise can be monotonous if you don’t entertain yourself while doing it.
