How to Frame Photos With Art Supplies
Picture frames are expensive. This is especially true if you want a special decorative frame, or if you need a frame in a large or unusual size. Creating a unique frame for the home using a few simple art supplies and a bit of creativity will save money.
Things You Will Need:
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Pen
- Glue stick
- Sheets of thick paper in different colors and sizes
- Large pieces of cardboard
- Thin wire
- Wire cutters
- Needle
- Choose two paper colors that best complement the photo that you wish to frame. Using the scissors, cut a rectangle from one of the sheets of paper. The first rectangle will form the interior of the picture frame, and it should be one inch larger than the edge of the picture. Cut a larger rectangle from the second sheet of paper. This second rectangle should be 2 or 3 inches larger than the first rectangle that was cut. This second rectangle will form the exterior of the picture frame.
- Use the glue stick to attach the picture to the inside of the smaller rectangle. Attach the picture from the back by applying a thin coat of glue along the outer edges of the frame.
- Attach the second, larger rectangle in the same fashion by applying a thin coat of glue and attaching the smaller rectangle to the interior of the larger rectangle.
- Add writing, glitter or pictures to the frame as desired.
- Cut a piece of cardboard to match the dimensions of the picture frame. This cardboard will act as a support to keep the frame straight.
- Use the needle to punch two small holes into each side of the cardboard. Thread a piece of thin wire from one hole, across the frame, and through the other hole. This wire will be used to hang the frame on the wall. Attach the wire by looping it around itself and cut any sharp ends using the wire cutters.
- Glue the picture frame onto the cardboard support. Allow adequate time for the frame to dry completely. Once dry, you can hang the frame onto the walls of your home.
