How to Frame War Medals

War medals are a great honor and symbol of past services made to a country. You can frame the medals to protect and display them. Frames can then be decorated or customized to your liking and hung on a wall inside the home.

  1. Clean the medals thoroughly. Silver or bronze cleaner can be used to clean the medal, and the ribbons can be laundered with other fabrics. Apply silver polish to the medal to give it a nice shine. Buff it and lay it out on a flat surface to dry.

  2. Design the way you want the frame to look on a piece of paper. If you are mounting more than one medal in a frame, draw each one in the position you want it mounted. You may want to create several designs and choose the one you like best.

  3. Remove the mounting from the back of the frame. Lay the medals on the mounting to match your design layout. Use pins or tacks to pin the medal ribbons to the mounting.

  4. If you wish to write quotes, phrases, dates or labels underneath the medals, do so with a permanent marker.

  5. Place the mounting and medals face down into the frame. You can also place the frame on top of the mounting and flip it over slowly. Make sure the medals and ribbons are not disturbed, turned or wrinkled when placing them in the frame.

  6. Fasten the frame attachments to secure the mounting to the frame. Mount the frame to the wall using a hammer and nails.
