How to Frame a Painting
A beautiful frame not only enhances the artwork of a painting, it can also preserve it. Choosing a frame for your painting is a decision that reflects personal tastes and decorating preferences. The key to framing a painting is purchasing one with the correct dimensions.
How to Frame a Painting
1. Measure the painting by using a tape measure. Write down the exact depth, width and height of the painting.
2. Choose the a frame that is specific for the type of painting you are framing. Canvas paintings have different depths; be sure to choose a frame that will support the depth of the painting without sticking out past the frame.
3. Pick a frame that will compliment the painting as well as room style. Remember a painting's frame can enhance the painting itself.
4. Place a cloth on top of the table or workbench to protect the painting.
5. Place the painting within the frame.
6. Screw offset z-shaped clips to the frame. Offset z-shaped clips have a hole at one end where a screw is drilled through it and onto the frame. The other end of the offset clip anchors to the painting.
7. Place a piece of cardboard backing on top of the canvas to protect it from accidental damage.
8. Anchor the offset clips to the canvas or cardboard.
9. Center a framing bracket at the top of the frame. Position the bracket and drive a screw on either side of the bracket to secure.
10. Hang your framed painting in the desired location.
