How to Fry Tofu
Frying tofu is not necessarily the healthiest way to prepare tofu, but it is a great way to prepare tofu if you have never tried it before, or if you are bored with other methods. Once you fry your tofu, you can use it as a base in a multitude of different recipes.
- Dry the tofu carefully with paper towels. Tofu is very wet, and this can be a problem when frying it.
- Select a large enough frying pan to hold your tofu.
- Slice your tofu block. Depending on your dish, you may want to slice it into slices or cubes. However you wish to cut it, your tofu will fry more easily if you cut it rather than trying to fry the entire large block. If the tofu pieces are still damp, dry them again with paper towels.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in your frying pan on medium heat. If you are planning to use your fried tofu in an Asian dish, you may want to use sesame oil. If you are planning to use your fried tofu in other types of dishes, you may want an oil with light flavor, such as canola oil. Regardless, use an appropriate oil that you enjoy.
- Place your tofu carefully into the oil. Raw tofu can fall apart easily, so be careful while putting it into the pan.
- Flip your tofu when it is browned on one side.
- Use your fried tofu in whatever dish you prefer. You can also eat fried tofu on its own as an entree. Season with salt, pepper and whatever other spices you prefer.
