How to Get Bar Soap Off a Mirror
Mirrors can be hard to keep clean. Adults have been known to use bar soap to keep mirrors from fogging. Children often write with the soap. To avoid the problem, switch to liquid soap. There are other reasons for white spots on a mirror. Make sure that the spots are soap. There are commercial cleansers or green home made products that will remove soap scum. Polish your mirror to a high gloss and apply repellant.
- Decide if the spots on your mirror are from bar soap or if they are caused from a different source. Mirrors can get milky whitish spots with age. Hard water with calcium deposits can also mar your bathroom fixtures.
- Try to chip off some pieces of the white material prior to using any cleanser. If the area flakes it is likely from bar soap.
- Take a dampened rag and wash off your mirror. Carefully wash the areas where the bar spots are.
- Decide on a cleanser. There are many commercial ingredients that are meant for glass cleaning. Apply and use as directed. Use a lint free clean cloth or balled up newspapers for a streak free shine. Polish in a circular pattern starting at one end of the mirror and working to the other.
- Go green and make your own solution to resolve your soap scum problem. Mix water with vinegar using one part vinegar to three parts water. Never mix any ammonia with bleach. This can cause a dangerous gas.
- Wash your glass with your green solution using a bucket, clean soft rags and the same type of lint free cloths or newspaper to dry.
- Try to rub stubborn soap spots with a fabric softener sheet. This will often remove the mess.
- Coat your mirror with a lemon and water spray or a commercial glass sheen and polish. Avoid streaking. This step may help you keep the soap from sticking to your glass.
- Avoid the problem by finding the cause. Children or adults are known for soaping mirrors.
