How to Get Debt Relief on Secured Loans

Secured loans means that when you took out the loan, you had to put some collateral up in order to qualify. Debt relief on secured loans includes removing the collateral so that it is no longer associated with the loan. In addition, when you reduce and pay off secured loans it can help your credit worthiness in getting future unsecured loans.

  1. Pay the loan in full. If you can
afford to pay off a secured loan completely, you will immediately
get your collateral back. If this is an option, call the company
that the secured loan is held at and begin negotiations with them to
settle the debt in full for a lesser amount than is actually owed.
Often when you are offering a large percentage of the loan with a
cash offer, it is too irresistible for them to refuse. This option
doesn't work for everyone especially if you do not have the cash on
hand to pay off the loan.

  2. Pay on the principal. If you have
a large cash amount to put toward the loan, make the payment to the
principal only. By doing so, your balance will be paid down faster
and will lower your overall interest.

  3. Choose a debt consolidation
company. If you do not have the cash to pay off the loan, you can
choose an option to pair the loan with another debt or loan. This
will allow you to get the collateral back, even if you still owe
some amount of money on the loan. A debt consolidation company is
also able to negotiate a settlement on your part to make the
interest lower on the balance that is still owed.
