How to Get Government Loans for Dairy Farming
Government loans for dairy farming are available from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency handles the loans. With its help, you can either receive a loan gaurantee or a loan directly from the agency.
1. Go over your business plan to be sure everything is in order. The Farm Service Agency will want to look over your plan. Be prepared to answer questions about your plan, your experience and your future as issues arise. The agency will most likely be contacting you for additional information throughout the process.
2. Determine which type of loan you should apply for. The agency has different loans available depending on your situation, for example new farmers, young farmers and those who need emergency help. It is a good idea to call your local office to find out which loan is best for you and their guidelines as far as credit score and down payment.
3. Check your credit score to be sure that it meets the requirements. Also be sure that you have enough money for the down payment.
4. Fill out the application from FSA. You can get one from the website or you can get one when you visit your local office.
5. Gather all documents that may be needed so you will have them in case there are any questions about your application.
6. Submit your application in person, by mail or through the website. In person may be the best option. You can then ask any questions you may have and find out about any additional documents that may be needed. Mail will generally take the longest.
7. Wait to hear back from the FSA. You may want to call to check in from time to time to see how things are going.
