Many housing associates will help with programs such as Housing and Urban Development or HUD, Section 8, public housing, and rental assistance. You must apply and be qualified to receive assistance, but if you need housing assistance applying is the first step.
- Realize that you must go to the
HUD
housing website and must not make more than the maximum amount
listed on the site for your individual state that you live in.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the state you live in
and a PDF file will open for you to view the maximums in your state.
If you make below the amount, you can proceed with making
application. - Apply for Section 8 on the Public
Housing Association website by clicking your state from the list
or use the map at the bottom of the page. You will be shown several
local offices that you can apply to or call if you have questions.
Remember, these people are there to help you and will not make you
feel badly because you need help, they work at such associations
because they are compassionate. - Check out rental
assistance in your state if you are renting and having a
difficult time paying your rent. Click on your state, you will then
be transferred to another page with information on rental assistance
and numbers to call for help. It is vital to apply immediately and
not wait because the application process can be lengthy. If you do
not understand the application, have someone help you or meet with a
representative at your local office.
