How to Get Hospital Care With No Insurance
Nothing is more nerve-racking than requiring medical care, unless you require medical care and you do not have any medical insurance. No matter if it is a broken limb, a viral illness or a heart attack, ailments and conditions should be attended to immediately. If you are not able to do so because of financial reasons, then there are some ways to let the hospitals help you feel your pain.
- Call the hospital's social worker's office. Let them know that you have a financial hardship and that you will need assistance paying the bill. You will have to give some personal information on your income, size of family, why you don't have a job, how much money you have at the moment and whether you have a bank account. Be prepared to put away some pride and hope for the best.
- Look into getting assistance from the Catastrophic Illness Children Relief Fund for any hospital debts related to a child's ailment. Again, be prepared to give out personal information to see if you qualify for aid. If you don't have any health insurance, there shouldn't be any problems.
- Set up a payment plan. Ask the hospital social worker to assist you with this by helping you to talk to the billing department. Come up with an amount that you can pay monthly and stick to it. If you have problems sticking to it, call them and let them know. Sometimes hospitals sit down and discuss forgiving certain outstanding debts that some patients owe. If they see that you trying to pay off your debt, you might be the next one.
- Get involved with Medicaid. Medicaid or medical assistance is a federal government funded health assistance program that pays for many, if not all, non-elective procedures. You must provide personal information to see if you qualify. If you do qualify, even in the middle of the application process, tell the hospital that you are applying for Medicaid and bring all outstanding bills to the application intake appointment.
