How to Get Insurance Continuing Education Credits
If you hold a state insurance license, you must take a certain amount of continuing education credits to maintain your active status. In order to get insurance continuing education credits you can take a class through the company you work for, online or in person through a third party.
- Take a continue education course through the company you work for. Many insurance companies develop their own continuing education classes for their employees. Sometimes they are able to get the classes approved by the state for state licensing continuing education. Check with your company to make sure their classes are state approved before you take them and count them towards your continuing education requirements.
- Attend an online continuing education class. Many third party companies offer insurance continuing education classes online. Check your states insurance board website for a list of approved online classes. Consider purchasing a package of classes. Many companies offer discounts if you purchase multiple classes or purchase a year of unlimited continuing education classes online.
- Take a continuing education class in person. Some people prefer to learn in person instead of learning online. If you prefer to learn in the classroom, you can take your continuing education classes in person. Again, check your states insurance board website for a list of approved companies. If the classes take place during working hours, check with your employer to see if you can have the day off. Insurance companies are well informed about state licensing requirements, so many of them will give you the day off to take a class.
